Hannie's Wounded Cat

Our housing coordinator, Hannie, recently bought two kittens. Unfortunately, one of her kittens, Chuckie, had an accident and his injuries required a cone to be place around his head for 10 days. So precious...

This really has nothing to do with Amsterdam, but who can resist a cat in a cone?

20th Birthday

As many of you know I had a birthday awhile ago, the big 2-0. The morning of my birthday my host family threw me a surprise birthday breakfast- complete with decorations, a cake, and fresh squeezed orange juice! That night, my host brother, Tom and I threw a party. I hired Tom and his friends to be the party planners- needless to say, it was a good time. My host dad, Phil, even had a good time (see below) and appropriately summarized the party by saying, "It's like having two 21st".

Croatia

Our group traveled to Croatia a while ago. We were there from March 15th until March 22nd. We stayed within the capitol of Croatia, Zagreb and unfortunately, were unable to visit the beaches. Zagreb was a quaint city filled with local markets, touristy gift shops, and a Catholic church on every corner. The educational itinerary of the Croatia trip was infinitely better than that of Morocco. We had lectures that discussed the Catholic Church's involvement with sexual education and were even able to experience a debate between individuals representing the church and individuals from an NGO who were against the Church’s abstinence only education. Croatia was a great trip; the lectures were interesting, the food delightful and the hostel we stayed at provided an experience similar to staying at grandma's for a week. Lovely!

Photos from Croatia. Be prepared, my camera died and naturally I forgot the battery charger at home so I only had my digital. The photos are not so fantastic.

Taken from the night we decided to go out; the same night that there was a freak blizzard.

My friend Clem and I did a walking tour around the city. This cart thing was not on the walking tour but we rode it anyway, assuming that it would be a fun ride. It was not that fun; at its peak it reached a speed of 2 mph.

St. Mark's Church

This is the horse statue that the group met at every day. Pretty important...
